February 26 - March 7, 2010
Rondy welcomes Jeff King, legendary distance musher, to the Rondy World Championship Sled Dog Races, as a Rookie.
Jeff King, celebrity musher and author, often referred to as “Winningest Musher in the World”, has confirmed that he will be running the World Championship Sled Dog Races for the first time. As a champion of multiple distance and stage races, Mr. King is eager to test his skills in the sprint discipline of sled dog racing- “Running the Rondy has long been a goal of mine and will be a welcome challenge giving me the ultimate experience in sprint racing. I am beyond excited and am shopping for spandex!”
Blayne “Buddy” Streeper, multiple champion of sprint races and reigning three time champion of The Rondy World Championship Sled Dog Races says, “The Fur Rondy is the ultimate dog race. To run through the streets of Anchorage, in such a history filled race, with thousands of cheering fans- I get goose bumps thinking of the event. I welcome Mr. King to The Rondy, and look forward to having him race a Streeper Kennels team for his inaugural race.” Streeper continues, “This year I have the opportunity to become the only musher in history to win four consecutive Rondy titles.”
The Rondy World Championship Sled Dog Races are produced in partnership between Greater Anchorage Inc and the Alaskan Sled Dog & Racing Association. Christine Tozier, President of the Alaskan Sled Dog & Racing Association, said “Registration for the race will formally open on November 1; we anticipate strong participation with the continued success of this race.”
Ernie Hall, President of the Rondy Board of Directors said “We welcome participation from mushers from other areas of the sport and predict that the trend will continue with our continued elevation of the Rondy World Championship Sled Dog Races and sprint mushing as a whole.” With the recent announcement of a guaranteed minimum purse of $80,000, the Rondy WCSDR continues to solidify its place as the premier sprint event in sled dog racing. Tudor Road Bingo Center and HotWire Electric are the major sponsors for the race.

The Open World Championship Race is held each February in
conjunction with the Fur Rendezvous Festival.
The race is organized and put on by ASDRA volunteers in partnership
with Greater Anchorage Inc.
Over 1000 hours of volunteer time and effort are required
for this race starting on 4th Avenue in Downtown Anchorage.
The trail follows 4th Avenue to Cordova St. At the bottom
of Cordova Hill the trail moves to the bike/ski trails along
Anchorage's greenbelt. Here the teams are challenged by long
dark culverts under the Seward Highway and Lake Otis. The
trail has two large overpass bridges over Northern Lights
Blvd. and Tudor Road separated by a trail through a popular
dog park. Six miles into the trail the teams hit the designated
sled dog trails of Tozier Track. Fourteen miles later the
trail again heads back across the Tudor Rd. bridge to downtown
Anchorage.
The Municipality of Anchorage supports this race with police
officers, snow fencing, and snow placement and removal for
the street portion of this race. ASDRA grooms and sets snow
fencing for the other 21 miles of trails. Greater Anchorage
Inc. raises the purse and promotes the race. ASDRA volunteers
manage and put on the race.
